Creative Ideas for Summer School

I like to take inspiration for creative projects from my children. Earlier this year I was led by their huge interest in superheroes and how we could create exciting movement phrases, duets, battles and warrior dance pieces as well as our very own powerful identities through dance. We found some music and set some intentions. However, it turns out we might have had a better idea!

My children are now keen to use the theme of Climate Change and the recent Youth Strike 4 Climate Wales events held in the region. We are currently considering a pivot on the theme (see the dance pun there!) and wanted to share this with you in case it grabbed your attention as well.

My daughter has found some incredibly inspiring music which has fired off all kinds of creative reactions in my dance brain. I can envisage dance work to represent damage to the environment, litter we can collect, plastic waste in the oceans and protest marches. We can create duets, whole group ensemble work, soulful contemporary dance and powerful demanding unison work.

Do get in touch if you are still to express and interest in booking a place in this year's Creative Summer School of Dance.

  • Monday 29th July - Friday 3rd August. Participants (ages 8-15), will be able to take part in daily creative dance workshops, learn new performance skills and choreograph pieces for their very own performance.

  • The cost of the course is £92.00 for five days tuition (sibling discount available) and will include a brand new summer school t-shirt.

  • Daily classes start at 10.00am and end at 3.00pm (ending at 12 noon on Friday).

  • There will be an informal sharing of our created performance at 12 noon on Friday 3rd August for family and friends.

New this year, iColour Education will be introducing Discover Arts Award. This is a qualification for young people which allows them to explore the arts more widely and gain formal recognition for their work.
  • For those who are interested in completing the Discover Arts Award, a short session will be added to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for approx 45 minutes to complete a range of tasks and record the participants learning journey and accomplishments in their very own logbook.

  • More information about this qualification can be found here. There will be an additional charge of £20 per student for these sessions to cover administration and tuition.

  • Please indicate on the booking form if your young person is interested in this opportunity.

  • I look forward to hearing from you. Do get in touch if you have any specific queries via
